CBSE Class 12 Maths Exam 2026: In a surprising event yesterday, a QR code of the CBSE Class 12 Maths paper 2026, when scanned, redirected to the YouTube video of a hit song “Never Gonna Give You Up”. The song is sung by an English singer, Rick Astley. Social media platforms like  X, Instagram, and Reddit were flooded with images of the question paper after the exam was over. 

This incident questioned the security feature, triggering confusion and discussion on the internet. Several memes and jokes about students being “rickrolled” during a board examination circulated over the social media platform.

CBSE Class 12 Maths Exam 2026: What Is “Rickrolled”?

The Internet meme and prank for the unexpected appearance of the “Never Gonna Give You Up” music video is termed “Rickrolling.”

Reactions came rolling after this incident. Some questioned how a YouTube video could appear on a security feature used for exam authentication. Some explained that the image might have been misinterpreted or edited.  

CBSE Class 12 Maths Exam 2026: CBSE’s Response

To this unusual incident, CBSE has not responded. Even though a mathematics teacher from a private school in Ghaziabad explained that security codes are not for students but for the authorities to ensure the integrity of the question paper. 

Further, she added, “It seems there is some inadvertent error by CBSE, despite being a national board that also operates in several foreign countries. The CBSE should be more careful in designing question papers and ensuring proper QR codes to avoid embarrassment.”

CBSE Class 12 Maths Exam 2026: What’s The Use Of QR Codes?

The QR codes in the question papers are used for verification by the authorities. When scanned from the mobile phones, these codes display either a coded string or a set of alphanumeric identifiers linked to CBSE’s internal database. These codes are then decoded by the authorised systems to verify the origin of the paper.
