CBSE Board Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it mandatory for Class 10 students to appear for the first board exam under its new two-board-exam policy. The board stated that students who are unable to appear for at least three subjects in the first board exam will be placed in the "essential repeat" category.

CBSE has issued a clarification regarding the Class 10 board exams starting from 2026, with the first board exam starting tomorrow, February 17, 2026. In response to requests from students seeking permission to directly appear for the second board exam due to compelling reasons, CBSE has clarified the eligibility criteria.

Important Points of the CBSE clarification:

1. Compulsory First Exam: All students must appear for the first board exam.

2. "Must Repeat" Category: Students who fail to appear in three or more subjects in the first exam will not be allowed to appear for the second board exam. These students will be placed in the "Must Repeat" category and can only appear for the main exam in February next year.

3. Improvement Opportunity: Passed and eligible students can improve their scores in a maximum of three subjects, including Science, Math, Social Science, and Language.

4. Compartment Category: Students whose first exam result is "Compartment" will be allowed to appear for the second exam under the compartment category.

5. No Additional Subjects: After passing Class 10, students cannot appear for additional subjects alone.

Who Can Apply for Second Board Exam?

-Students may appear for the second exam for improvement in up to three main subjects, as well as under first or third chance compartment categories. Those opting for compartment plus improvement or improvement after subject replacement are also eligible.

-CBSE has clearly stated that students missing three or more subjects in the main examination will not be permitted to appear in the second board exam.

-The board has further clarified that it will not entertain or respond to any requests seeking exemptions from this rule.
