The official said the call regarding the incident was received at around 7.45 pm, after which the rescue team rushed to the spot, according to a PTI report.
As per the reports, a PCR call was received around 2:30 pm at the police station in Begumpur about a missing person. The man was suspected to have fallen in open drain on vacant DDA land in Sector-32, Rohini. When officials reached the spot, caller Amir Hussain, a resident of village Uchati, Darbhanga, Bihar stated that one of his friends had fallen into a manhole.
Incident Occurred On Monday Night
Hussain informed the police that his friend, Birju Kumar Rai (32), a labourer from Samastipur district of Bihar, had been missing since last evening. Birju was last seen with another friend, Budhan Das aka Suraj, 33 and a resident of village Bhupati, Madhubani in Bihar. As per Hussain, both his friends had consumed alcohol. At about 7:30 PM, Birju lost his control and fell into the manhole while they both were both returning to their jhuggi nearby.
Birju Could Have Been Saver?
Suraj did not inform anyone at night about Birju falling in drain as he was intoxicated, and informed Amir Hussain as soon as he regained his senses, the next day in the afternoon.
After receiving information, the police alerted the DDA, fire brigade and other agencies concerned. The police launched the rescue operation with the help of the fire brigade and recovered the body late on Tuesday. The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination, and further proceedings are underway.
