Suryakumar Yadav delivered a timely reminder of his class with a brilliant unbeaten 72 off just 36 balls in the T20 Mumbai 2026 tournament on June 8. The experienced batter guided Triumphs Knights MNE to a comfortable six-wicket win over MSC Maratha Royals, keeping his team’s semifinal hopes alive.
The knock came at an important time for the 35-year-old, who was recently removed as captain and left out of India’s squad for the upcoming tour of Ireland and England. In the previous game, Suryakumar had scored a quick 48 off 24 balls, but his team ended up on the losing side against Shreyas Iyer-led SoBo Mumbai Falcons.

After winning the toss, Suryakumar chose to bowl first. MSC Maratha Royals got off to a decent start, with captain Siddhesh Lad scoring 24 from 16 balls. However, the innings lost momentum after Sylvester DSouza produced a superb spell, picking up five wickets for just 21 runs.
Chinmay Sutar made 36 off 26 deliveries, while Maxwell Swaminathan added 36 from 29 balls. Despite these contributions, the Royals collapsed in the latter stages and were bowled out for 152 in 19.5 overs.
Chasing 153, Triumphs Knights MNE lost both openers early. Suryakumar came to the crease in the fifth over and immediately looked in control. He got off the mark with a boundary and soon took charge of the chase, hitting three consecutive fours in one over.
He then stitched together a crucial partnership with Nutan Kumar Goel. The duo helped the team cross the 100-run mark in the 12th over. Suryakumar reached his half-century in just 29 balls, while Goel brought up a well-made fifty from 36 deliveries.

Goel eventually departed for 56 off 42 balls, but by then the match was firmly in Triumphs Knights MNE’s control. Suryakumar remained unbeaten and finished the chase in style with a boundary as his team reached the target with four overs to spare.
The victory also improved the team’s net run rate and kept them in contention for a place in the semifinals.

Suryakumar was named Player of the Match for his match-winning innings, but in a touching gesture, he shared the award with DSouza, whose five-wicket haul had set up the win.
The Indian star has been one of the standout performers in the tournament so far. He has scored 143 runs in four innings at an impressive average of 47.67 and a strike rate of 185.71.
Triumphs Knights MNE will now face Eagle Thane Strikers in their final league-stage match on June 9. It is a must-win game for Suryakumar’s side, although victory alone may not guarantee them a place in the last four.
