Things have become heavily chaotic within the Pakistan cricket team after their disappointing outing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan couldn't make it to the semifinal after managing just one victory in the Super 8 stage. Despite winning their last match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan were knocked out of the competition.
While players have been at the receiving end of heavy criticism, reports have now claimed that head coach Mike Hesson is under pressure for having too much power. According to Geo News, several Pakistan players approached Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials to complain about Hesson’s ‘behaviour’, alleging his ‘rigid’ approach and unilateral decisions ‘unsettled the dressing room’.
Pakistan had a promising start in the T20 WC 2026, but they lost their way after a heavy defeat against the arch-rivals India in Colombo. A loss against England in the Super 8 stage put them on the backfoot before they missed out on the semifinal berth despite a thrilling win over Sri Lanka. While there has been a lot of talk about the possible disputes in the opinions of the players and the team management. The report claimed that Hesson has been internally accused of making every decision from squad selection to batting order picks, some without consulting the captain, Salman Agha.

However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is unlikely to remove Hesson from the job already because not only does his contract has an year left on it, but they also want to maintain ‘stability’. The report comes days after one of the selectors, Aleem Dar, resigned from the job. Soon after he put in his papers, reports claimed that he was against selecting certain players in the team — Babar Azam and Usman Khan in particular.
"I think we couldn’t bat well throughout the tournament. It was only Sahibzada Farhan who batted exceptionally well. And during that period, if anyone had helped him a bit more, it could have been a different story. But yeah, the batting was always a concern throughout the tournament. Especially middle-order. The middle order has been a problem for us for a few years now. We need to sit down and obviously definitely want to look at that department as well," Pakistan skipper Salman Agha said after the Sri Lanka game.
