India vs Pakistan: The 'hoopla' around the much-awaited contest between the two bitter rivals, India and Pakistan, ended in disappointment for the men-in-green and their fans, with the Suryakumar Yadav-led side clinching another contest in their favour in their T20 World Cup campaign on Sunday in Colombo. The difference between the two sides was evident as India adapted to the conditions way better than their Pakistani counterparts, despite the former reaching Sri Lanka two days before the encounter.

With this win, India also became the first team from Group A to reach the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2026. On the other hand, Pakistan need another win to keep their chances for qualification in their own hands.

India remains on top with three wins in three matches in Group A, while Pakistan has dropped to third with two wins and a loss, and the USA currently occupies second place with two wins and two losses.

As the dust settles after the contest, here are the key takeaways from the contest:

1. Pakistan's Failure To Read Conditions Despite Getting An Open-Book

The conditions in Colombo played a huge role for both teams as they relied on a spin-friendly attack on a wicket that assisted spinners and pace bowlers, who have cutters and slower deliveries in their arsenal. Pakistan, who are scheduled to play all their games in Sri Lanka, were aware of the conditions in Colombo much before and better than the Indian Cricket Team. However, their captain, Salman Agha, made a grave error of batting second in a venue that had negligible dew.

2. Ishan Kishan - 'The Difference'

Banking on his majestic form, Ishan proved to be the difference between the two sides. Ishan's marauding knock of 77 off 40 balls on a tough track mauled Pakistan's spin-heavy bowling attack. Abrar Ahmed, Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi were left with no answers in the onslaught as India maintained their scoring rate incredibly well till the time Ishan remained on the crease.

3. Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav's Steady Act

The middle-order mainstays Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar played in a non-aggressive manner to keep the scorecard moving with singles and doubles with an occasional boundary in the over after Ishan got out. The scoring rate dipped a bit but remained healthy enough for the finishing act for Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube, who feasted on Shaheen's last over.

4. India's Piercing Pace Attack

India's only fast bowlers in the attack - Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya were aware that the ball does swing under lights. Taking advantage, they pitched the ball full enough to get the movement off the deck. The wickets of Sahibzada Farhan and Salman Agha were a result of the disciplined bowling. Bumrah's searing yorker to Saim Ayub was the delivery of the match.

5. Indian Spinners 'Walk The Talk'

Indian spin attack gave a reality check to Pakistan's former Cricketers who were gushing over the euphoria of 'mystery bowler' Usman Tariq. Pakistan did not have either skill or resolve to get out of the marshy land, and continued to perish against Indian spinners through the middle overs as Kuldeep Yadav, Axar, Tilak Varma and Varun Chakravarthy kept them under an unbreakable spell.

India now lead 8-1 in all T20 World Cup encounters.
