India vs West Indies, ICC T20 World Cup 2026: West Indies star batter Shimron Hetmyer was not happy after being given out by the third umpire against India in match 52 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1. West Indies were off to a promising start after being put into bat first.

India got the first breakthrough in the ninth over when Varun Chakravarthy removed Shai Hope for 32. Hetmyer, who has been in remarkable form in the tournament, looked promising during his stay at the crease, having scored 27 runs in just 12 balls on the back of one four and a couple of sixes. An interesting moment took place in the 12th over as India bounced back with the wickets of Hetmyer and Roston Chase.

The dismissal of Hetmyer came off a short-of-length delivery that angled across the left-hander. Hetmyer attempted a slog across the line and inside-edged it to Sanju Samson. He reviewed immediately after umpire Chris Gaffaney raised the finger. UltraEdge showed a spike, and the decision stood. However, Hetmyer was seen unhappy, signalling that there was a gap between bat and ball. Even West Indies coach Darren Sammy was not convinced of the decision.

Before getting dismissed, Hetmyer achieved an outstanding record as he became the player to hit the most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. He went past Sahibzada Farhan's tally to take the top spot in the elite list.

Most sixes in a T20 World Cup edition

19* Shimron Hetmyer (2026)

18 Sahibzada Farhan (2026)

17 Nicholas Pooran (2024)

16 Chris Gayle (2012)

16 Rahmanullah Gurbaz (2024)

West Indies went on to post a massive total of 195/4 in their 20 overs on the back of Roston Chase's 40-run knock, whereas Rovman Powell (34*) and Jason Holder (37*) provided the finishing touch with crucial contributions.
