Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels Gautam Gambhir should avoid getting into so many disputes. This comes after the India men's head coach called out Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal for suggesting split coaching for the team, aiming a shot at Gambhir. Chopra emphasised the fact that Gambhir's actions will only lead to more criticism.

After the recent ODI series win against South Africa, Gambhir, in a press conference, took a shot at Jindal by telling him to stay in his own area after India won the three-ODI series against South Africa. Before this, India lost the home Test series against the Proteas, marking Gambhir's second home whitewash as a coach. This understandably drew criticism from many, as several observers believe the methods of the Delhi politician-turned-coach are directly tied to India's failures.

“You expect that with Gautam," Chopra was quoted from a YouTube video on his channel.

“When he comes to press conferences, he speaks his heart out. He doesn’t leave anything behind. I have a suggestion for Gautam. I will probably tell him when we meet. When you come across someone so fiery, and when you go after an individual or something, people then start waiting for Gautam to fail. At times, it seems like you are setting yourself up for this kind of criticism," he added.

“One thing is certain with Gautam. His heart is in the right place, and he is a very passionate guy. He is always ready to fight for the country and the country’s team. My only suggestion is don’t fight. People will be waiting to see your downfall. You have to please nobody. Don’t pick up so many fights," he added.

Chopra examined why Gambhir made that remark. He suggested that there might be some tensions between them. It seems the head coach did not expect that criticism from Jindal.

“I felt it was slightly unnecessary. However, sometimes we fail to understand the undercurrents behind it. I am not trying to defend him. However, at times, you feel bad about someone because you know that person’s opinion of you has been different earlier as well, so let me just fire it back," he added. “That might have been the case with that one person. Otherwise, I don’t think there is merit in the argument that you shouldn’t speak if you are not a domain expert," he said.
