EPF Interest Rate News: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on March 2 retained the interest rate for deposits under employee provident fund (EPF) at 8.25 per cent for the financial year 2025-26, news agency PTI reported, citing official sources. The pension fund body has retained the interest rate for the second consecutive year.  

Earlier, in February last year, the EPFO fixed the interest rate for the pension fund deposits at 8.25 per cent for the financial year 2024-25.

EPF Interest Rate Was Raised In 2024

Last time, EPFO raised the EPF interest rate marginally for the financial year 2023-2024 to 8.25 per cent from 8.15 per cent in the fiscal year 2022-23. Since then, the pension body has not considered a hike or decrease for the EPF deposits. 

The interest rate was lowered in 2022

In March 2022, the EPFO reduced the interest rate significantly on deposits to a four-decade low of 8.10 per cent for FY 2021-22, from 8.5 per cent in 2020-21. The rate of 8.10 per cent for 2020-21 is the lowest for its over 7 crore investors since 1977-78, when it was 8 per cent.

Finance Ministry To Approve 

After the CBT decision, the interest rate on EPF deposits for the year 2025-26 will be sent to the finance ministry for approval. After the government's approval, the interest rate for the year 2025-26 will be credited to the accounts of over 70 million EPFO subscribers.

EPFO offers interest rates after receiving government approval through the finance ministry.

In March 2020, EPFO reduced the interest rate on provident fund deposits to a seven-year low of 8.5 per cent for the year 2019-20, from 8.65 per cent for 2018-19.

EPFO offered its subscribers an interest rate of 8.65 per cent in 2016-17 and 8.55 per cent in 2017-18. The interest rate in 2015-16 was slightly higher at 8.8 per cent.

The superannuation fund offered an interest rate of 8.75 per cent in 2013-14 and 2014-15, compared to 8.5 per cent in 2012-13. The interest rate in 2011-12 was 8.25 per cent.
