India-US Trade Deal: After India and the US announced a trade deal between the two countries earlier this month, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal on Monday said that an Indian delegation will visit Washington next week to finalise the legal terms of the interim trade deal between India and the United States. The final trade agreement is expected to roll out in March 2026.
Deepak Jain, who is India’s chief negotiator and serves as Joint Secretary in the Commerce Ministry, will lead the Indian delegation to the US on February 23. Talking about the current status of the negotiation, Agrawal said that virtual engagements between the countries are underway.

What Are The Terms Of India-US Legal Trade Agreement
Referring to the recently released joint statement by the two countries, Agrawal said the statement lays down the broad contour of the interim deal between India and the US. The agreement will now be translated into a legal document and is expected to come into effect in March 2026.
“The joint statement lays down the contours of the deal. Now the contours of the deal has to be translated into a legal agreement, which will be signed between the two sides,” he told reporters.
With an objective to make business between India and the US beneficial for both countries, India and the US announced an interim trade deal earlier this month. The US President announced the deal on Social Truth, slashing the tariff on Indian exports to the US from 25 per cent to 18 per cent.
