AI Impact Summit 2026: The impact of rapidly evolving Artificial Intelligence and its applications will have a massive impact on the current roles across the sector, as 40 per cent of jobs in emerging economies will feel the heat of AI disruption, according to IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

Speaking at a panel discussion at AI Impact Summit in Bharat Mandapam, the IMF managing director emphasised that the impact of AI would be like a tsunami on working professionals in both developing markets and advanced economies.

"We calculated that this risk is very high. We actually see the impact of AI...like a tsunami. Globally, 40 per cent of jobs will be affected by AI...In emerging markets, 40 per cent, but in advanced economies, 60 per cent," she said.

Georgieva further noted that the artificial intelligence will fuel the global economic growth by 0.8 per cent, and India's goal to become a Viksit Bharat or a developed nation is achievable.

According toGeorgieva'sa research at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), highlights that AI has the potential to give a significant acceleration to global economic growth.

"We did some research and here is the answer. Based on what we know, AI can lift global growth by almost a percentage point. We say 0.8 per cent... It would mean that the world would grow faster than it did before the COVID pandemic," she said.

As per the IMF Managing Director, the rapid economic growth is "fantastic" for creating more opportunities and more jobs.

Expressing satisfaction with the growth of AI in India, she said that this magnitude that we see for India and it would mean that India's Viksit Bharat Goal is achievable. India has set a goal of becoming Viksit Bharat by 2047, by achieving $a $30trillion economy target.

IMF To Continue Working On Understanding Progress In AI

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Kristalina Georgieva said India is “very fortunate” that its young population is embracing AI. She said investments by policymakers to build digital public infrastructure are removing barriers to entrepreneurship.

Urging policymakers to be “proactive” on AI, Georgieva said the IMF will continue to work with countries to understand what is happening in AI and how to project it into future policy.
