8th Pay Commission Latest Update: Clearing the air around speculation whether the government would apply a separate pay revision for central government employees, the government has said that they don't have any such proposal under consideration. The government has clarified its stand on the demand for a separate pay revision mechanism for employees of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) in connection with the upcoming 8th Pay Commission in the Parliament.

Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed that the government is not considering any proposal to create a separate institutional Pay Revision Committee (PRC) for non-executive staff and officers below the board level working in CPSEs.

Member of Parliament (MP) Laxmikant Pappu Nishad raised the question, seeking details about the pay revision process for nearly 8 lakh CPSE employees, which is expected to come into effect from 2027.

Nishad also asked whether the government acknowledges that the pay revision process, bonus or performance-related pay (PRP) formulas, allowances, benefits, and profit-sharing patterns vary widely across different CPSEs and would potentially violate the principle of “equal pay for equal work.”

Additionally, he asked what steps the government is taking to standardise the system and ensure greater equity.

Minister's Reply

In response, Chaudhary said that differences in salaries, allowances, and incentives across CPSEs are primarily due to variations in their financial strength and performance levels.

The Minister added that while the government issues uniform guidelines from time to time to promote transparency and broad equity, CPSEs are also allowed a degree of functional autonomy in determining their pay structures.
